My favourite road trips in the UK and Europe

Summer is the season for road trips! In this post, I’m going to share some of my favourite road trips with you guys so you can be ready to explore on four wheels.

If you’re planning a road trip, #TyreKnowledge is power. But it’s crucial that you check your vehicle before you and your family get onto the open road. TyrePlus has created a super-informative ebook which taught me a lot about the importance of tyre safety. It makes sense that tyres are so important- after all, they’re the only part of the car that actually makes contact with the road. You’ll need to check your tyre tread, pressure, and any signs of aging. Keep an eye on your valves, and if in doubt, get your tyres checked before you go anywhere.

Once you’ve checked your car, you’re ready to get on the road. Here are my favourite road trips in the UK and Europe:

Porto to Faro

Portugal has got to be one of the most beautiful countries in the world. And a road trip is by far the best way to see the country. This means you can be a bit spontaneous and stop off whenever you like.

There’s a reason why Porto is one of the most visited places in Portugal. There are plenty of wine tasting tours, while the historical city is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Head south towards Ericeira beach. If you’ve always wanted to learn to surf, this is the place to do it.

Next, head to Lisbon, where you can rest and relax before exploring the city. Check out the Time-Out food market, take a food tour, or ride the tram through the most popular tourist districts.

Finally, stop at Faro, where you’ll explore ancient cathedrals dating back centuries, wander around the city, and then grab your flight back home.

Bucharest to Vienna

Leave from Bucharest, travelling north through the Carpathian mountains. You’ll end up in Transylvania where you can check out Dracula’s old stomping grounds at Bran Castle. The Transfagarasan is known as one of the world’s most beautiful routes, and you’ll explore countless cities and castles.

Stop off in Budapest and spend a few days exploring this city. Finally, end your trip in beautiful Vienna.

Highways and Beaches in Greece

Get started in Athens and head to Sounion. Be sure to take in a sunset from the Temple of Poseidon. Make your way to Nafplio for a relaxed few days, or head to Mystra which was Byzantium’s political and cultural capital.

Next, visit Olympia and Delphi. Head back to Athens from the north- the perfect loop.
