6 Tips to Revitalize Your Morning Routine for More Productive Days

Are you disorganized first thing in the morning? Does getting ready for work stress you out? Are you famous for almost missing your bus or train? Let’s consider the importance of a consistent and well-structured morning routine and how it can set you up for a productive and efficient working day.

Discover how well-known executives have been winning their mornings for more successful days. Here are a few tips that will help you follow their examples.

1. Get Up Early

Waking up early is a habit that nearly all successful leaders follow because waking up early gives you a mental edge. Of course, it’s difficult to wake up early if you have stayed up until midnight the night before, so make sure you hit the hay early enough to get seven to eight hours of sleep.

2. Make Your Bed

This might seem like a tedious chore, but you will have accomplished the first task of the day. As Admiral William McRaven, commander of U.S. Special Operations Command, said, you will have given yourself a small sense of pride and encouragement to go on to other tasks. And, if you have a miserable day at the office, you will arrive home to a bed that is ready to receive you for a restful night’s sleep.

3. Work Out a Little

Physical preparation for the working day ahead is just as important as mental preparation. Spend at least half an hour doing yoga, running, jogging, biking, or hitting the gym – it doesn’t matter what kind of exercise as long as you’re moving your body.

4. Meditate

After your work out, take a shower and focus for ten minutes or so on the spiritual side of life. This could mean simply sitting and thinking about things to be grateful for. Those who meditate say that meditation provides them with a sense that they can handle anything that gets thrown at them during the day. Can’t spare ten minutes? Here’s a two-minute breathing exercise for you.

5. Write

Keep a journal and write down achievable, daily and weekly goals for all roles you are expected to fulfill (parent, spouse, CEO, etc.). Without a daily schedule, it’s frighteningly easy to get home from work and discover you’ve achieved nothing very important. John Gannon jots down ten new ideas every day and shares his input with others. This led to an exciting job offer with a startup. Now, he helps others find employment with startups.

6. Eat a Healthy Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important daily meal and should consist of lean protein, whole grains, and healthy fats. You’ll be less hungry throughout the day, have more energy and better focus and concentration. Skipping breakfast is also tied to being overweight.

Begin to Win Your Mornings

These ideas to win the morning are by no means all-encompassing. Try incorporating each chosen element one at a time until you achieve consistency. And, just remember that your morning habits can make or break your day.
