The best Home Hacks for 2016

We all want to make life easier, and there are plenty of ways that we can save time and keep things tidy around the home.

Here are the best home hacks for 2016:

Organise your lids

Why is it that we can always find plastic containers, but finding the lids is an absolute nightmare? The easy solution is to find a CD holder (you’ll be able to pick one up for just a few dollars at a garage sale) and put it in the cupboard beside your containers. Put your lids into the slots and you’ll never be hunting for a lid again.

Store your Spices

Spices come in all shapes and sizes and you can easily lose track of half-empty bottles. Try using compact, slim Tic Tac boxes instead and you’ll find them both easy to use and easy to store.

Keep your Underwear Neat

It’s easy to end up with an underwear drawer that’s constantly overfull and unorganised, so  cut up some PVC pipe, paint it cute colours and line the pieces horizontally in your drawer. Each pipe gets its own pair of underwear and you can easily see each pair you own, without the mess.

Use the One-in-One-out rule

This is great if you have kids, but also excellent if you like to buy new clothes. Every time something new is bought, find something to donate. This teaches kids about helping those less fortunate, reduces mess, and allows you to choose your clothes more carefully- you’re unlikely to buy something on a whim if it means you need to give something up in exchange.

Protect your clothes

This tip is excellent for when you’re travelling, or even for clothes that you want to keep in tip-top shape. Cut a slit in the end of a pillowcase and slip a hanger through and you have an instant garment bag for clothes.

Hire a Mover

There’s few things more stressful than moving home. Not only do you have to organise all your things, but you also have to physically get them to your new home, which could either be minutes or hours away. You Move Me will take care of all the hassle of moving so that you can focus on getting settled and comfortable in your new home. Their moving services can give you the peace of mind to get your life quickly organised and feeling comfortable in your new home, no matter where it is.

Use Self Storage

Whether you’re going away for awhile, buying a smaller house, moving in with a significant other or simply have too much stuff, using self storage facilities can be a great way to store your household goods, cars, sporting equipment, furniture and office records. Since you can always access your stuff, you have no reason to keep it cluttering up your home. Check out Fort Knox for more information.

Store your plastic bags

If you’re like most people, you’re probably keeping your plastic bags in a designated drawer or cupboard and dealing with them constantly spilling out. The answer? Take a pretty tissue box and stuff the bags in there and you’ll save tons of space.

Organise your closet

If you have a small closet, you’re probably pretty keen to maximise the space you have. Take a large hanger and add shower curtain clips and you have an instant rack for tank tops, scarves, and even dresses.

Save Space in your drawers

Folding your shirts is expected, but instead of storing them horizontally, pack them in vertically to save space and instantly see which are ready to wear.
